Local Newcastle writer, Peter Uren, penned his first novel, The Old Mechanic, and what a great book. Easy to read, it's about an old mechanic, funnily enough, who takes on a young bloke as his apprentice, showing him the ropes re: motorcycles, but also in life. This is Peter's first gig as a writer and, in my opinion, his first book is a beauty. I couldn't put it down.

A great read! A great mix of talking bikes, relationships. Both of the books by Peter have been a joy to read. He makes you feel like you're right at the shop with them. To read of the love and passion for relationships and to have the joy and pride in the work.

The story is honest and poignant. The characters are heart-warming and charismatic. The bikes are British and classic. What's not to like? I deeply wish George Edward's bike shop had an equivalent here in the real world and in my home town. I'd gladly spend as much of my time there as I could.

I have read all your books and really enjoyed reading them. Also it was interesting to see how your writing has evolved. Have always been interested in motorcycles and ride regularly but definitely given me a new perspective on classic bikes and it's relationship to our psych and why it's such a bonding interest! I hope you are working on your next book and am looking forward to it.

Bio

BIO

Peter J. Uren was born and grew up on the NSW South Coast, the second of four children. After finishing High School, Peter joined the Royal Australian Air Force where he served for 23 years. He worked for another seven years as a civilian with the Department of Defence before ill health forced his retirement.

Peter has had a life long love affair with motorcycles. He purchased his first bike at 18, and in the intervening 40 odd years, he has had another nine machines, including a classic BSA A10 650cc outfit. He still enjoys motorbikes, but he recently disposed of his last ride. At this stage, he will write about bikes rather than ride them.

Peter came late to writing for pleasure. In September 2013 he had written and published his first novel: The Old Mechanic. The sequel, Dominator in the Shadows, followed in October 2014, The Classic Bike Workshop in September 2015 and Classic Bike Dreaming in October 2016.

After publishing a booklet of poems in 2017, he published  Tommo's Terrific Triumph Trident in February 2019.

Over the years he has written numerous short-stories. He recently compiled the stories which he self-published in September 2019.

Peter has been married to Judy for 42 years, and they have one adult son.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • My latest book, Of Life and Motorbikes and Other Stuff, is available now from Amazon as both an eBook and a paperback.

  • I have had to use KDP (Amazon) resourses to publish my last two books, so they are now being printed and posted from the US. That accounts for the higher price per copy.

  • All of my other books are still available for sale from me at a REDUCED PRICE, although I only have a small number of my first novel, The Old Mechanic, and my book of poetry - first come first served.
